What is Brainspotting?
“Where you look affects how you feel”-David Grand, Ph.D. Have you ever noticed yourself focusing on something as you processed or experienced the emotional pain of a difficult situation? Do you feel heightened and constantly “stuck on” or down depressed and “stuck off?” I want to introduce you to an intervention that can help and it is called Brainspotting.
Brainspotting is a technique that works to access areas in the brain that have you “stuck.” Through finding a point within your field of view you are able to access and process emotional pain, physical pain, trauma, sports performance issues and many other challenging symptoms. By forming a connection with the right provider, emotional attunement is experienced further enhancing the process. Straying from the typical path of therapist-led interventions, Brainspotting is very client-led. This modality holds a belief that the brain knows what it needs to heal. The therapist is simply there to hold space and follow.
