About Mary
As a bilingual (Spanish/English) therapist proud of my Mexican heritage and Northern Nevada roots, I understand how important it is to feel truly seen and supported. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming space where you can share your story, explore what’s weighing you down, and begin to build the life you want.
I graduated with my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Social Work at the University of Nevada (Go Wolf Pack!) and decided to specialize in Clinical Social Work when I got involved in the mental health field back in 2012. Since then, I have worked in multiple settings such as outpatient, acute psychiatric and substance abuse inpatient settings, crisis management/intervention, suicide prevention, trauma-informed care, human/sex-trafficking victimization, grief/loss and trauma, domestic violence, CPS/Child Welfare, and higher-education student counseling with agencies such as Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) through DCFS, University of Nevada through The Multicultural Center, Crisis Support Services Of Nevada (now, 988), and Washoe County Human Services Agency.
In our work together, I balance compassion with honesty. I’ll listen deeply, bring in humor and realness when it helps, and offer tools and perspectives that you can use outside of session. I draw from approaches like CBT, DBT, mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, and ACT, but more importantly, I tailor each session to your unique needs. I’ve supported people through depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, grief, life transitions, and more. Whether you’re navigating cultural identity, setting healthier boundaries, managing stress, or finding your way through big life changes, I’m here to walk alongside you—not just as a therapist, but as someone who truly cares about your growth and well-being.
Clients often tell me they appreciate that I help them set realistic goals, develop personalized coping skills, and feel empowered to navigate both challenges and successes. My hope is that therapy with me feels like a mix of support, encouragement, and practical guidance that helps you move forward with confidence.
Outside of my work, I recharge through music, concerts, traveling with my husband, reading in my book nook, game nights with family, brunch with friends and spending time with my nieces and nephews.
“it’s not about being perfect. it’s not about where you get yourself in the end. there’s power in allowing yourself to be known and heard, in owning your unique story, in using your authentic voice. And there’s grace in being willing to know and hear others”.
