About Kristen
It is my belief that the process of therapy is a journey in which we learn to balance acceptance of what is outside of our control with implementing changes that help us continue moving along our paths. I view the relationship between a client and a therapist as a genuine connection between people, and I consider my part in the journey, however long or short that may be, to be an honor. It can be incredibly overwhelming to navigate life difficulties and seek support in the form of mental health treatment, and I want to acknowledge how incredibly big that is for each person who chooses to take that step.
In my practice, I utilize humanistic and person-centered approaches, meaning I encourage clients to come as they are, and I work with the understanding that each client is a unique and dynamic individual. Clients who work with me can look forward to a space that is empathetic, validating, attentive, and collaborative. I view laughter and humor in this journey as musts, and I endeavor to share these moments with my clients.
I earned my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Nevada, Reno and have enjoyed working with people across the lifespan in the Northern Nevada area. While I often work from cognitive and dialectical behavior therapy perspectives, I also implement mindfulness and strength-based approaches to support clients in working towards their goals. I am forever curious about learning new strategies and methods to best support my clients and will offer to implement these approaches with clients who want to try them.
Outside of the therapy office I enjoy seeing new sights, exploring new places, and going on adventures in nature with my husband and two dogs (when they aren’t busy lazing about on the couch). When I’m not dancing my heart out at some sort of dance fitness class you will find me with my nose in a mystery novel and a coffee in hand.
"The journey becomes the destination when we embrace the moments in between."
